As we are truly in the cold months, turn off your outdoor faucets if you haven't already.
Remove the hose: Take the hose and/or splitter off the faucet.
Find the shut-off valve: The water shut-off valve is usually in the basement.
Close the valve: Turn off the valve.
Open the faucet: Open the faucet or hose bib outside to drain any remaining water.
Here are some other tips for protecting outdoor faucets from freezing:
Install an outdoor faucet protector.
Insulate the pipe leading up to the faucet.
Use a faucet cover to insulate the faucet.
Frozen faucets can create a lot of pressure that can damage pipes and spigot components. The pipes behind the outdoor spigot are part of the network that supplies the rest of the house.
