The program runs from 2pm to 4pm. Secretary Benson is expected to give her remarks around 3pm.

The City of Lathrup Village, the Southfield Parks and Recreation Department, and the Southfield Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Task Force have collaborated to provide transportation so that local residents can participate in both of the wonderful Dr. King celebrations! According to Lathrup Village Mayor Kelly Garrett, “This is an historic moment for our community; both in having Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson speaking and the tremendous partnership with Southfield.”

There will be two 13 passenger Southfield Parks & Recreation busses available at the conclusion of the Southfield program. The busses will shuttle continuously back and forth from the Southfield Parks & Recreation entrance in the Southfield Civic Center to the Lathrup Village City Hall (entrance near the Police department).  The shuttles will run from 1:30pm – 4:30pm.  People can either return back to the Southfield Civic Center or the Hope United Methodist Church parking lot where the Freedom Walk originates.

In addition, the Lathrup Village program includes musical performances by Pastor Lynn and a dance performance by the International Pace Praise Dance Team.  Rev. Jones will emcee the event. Lathrup Village Council Member Donna Stallings will introduce Secretary Benson and Lathrup Village Mayor Kelly Garrett will offer the closing remarks.

The program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be available.

Participants are encouraged to bring a donation of dry or canned food as a contribution for the Southfield Oakland Shelter Food Pantry.
